    Overview

Developer Digital Lode and Publisher Tripwire Presents are excited to announce the availability of Hotfix #1 for Espire 2’s recent Mixed Reality Missions update. We’ve been collecting player feedback since our “MR Missions” update launched in October and this hotfix aims to address the top issues reported by players.

    Quest Device Targeting

Meta have added a feature that allows developers to create builds that are targeted at specific Quest devices. We have used this feature to create two build tiers:
    1. Quest 3 & Future devices
    2. Quest 2 & Quest Pro

    The benefits to players include:
    • Quicker initial setup.
The game has a one-time ‘shader compiling process’ that occurs when launching the game for the first time. With this hotfix, this process has now been significantly reduced as now the targeted build will compile only the shaders required for the headset the player is using.
    • Reduced download & installation.
Before this hotfix, Quest 2 & Pro users had to download a full 13.5GB installation which included high resolution textures that only displayed on Quest 3. Now, with the ‘targeted builds’, Quest 2 & Pro user’s install size will be significantly smaller (8GB).

MR Mode - relaxed ceiling height requirement

Since the release of our 1.6 MR update, a top issue reported from players is our 2.2 metre ceiling height requirement. This locks out many players from being able to play. With this hotfix, we have lowered the ceiling height to 2 metres - approx 6.5 feet.

    Improved first time user experience

We have adjusted our ‘first time user experience’. Previously, Espire 2 would launch the main campaign for a first-time user. Now, the player will be sent to the main menu. We have also added a prompt to the MR button where we recommend a player experiences the first mission from our VR campaign before trying the MR mode. We do encourage players to complete Espire 2’s first VR campaign mission before trying out our Mixed Reality game mode.

Improved “guardian boundary” instructions for first-time MR players

The #1 issue players have been facing with our MR game mode is the Meta “Guardian Boundary”. This blue guardian boundary often blocks players from being able to walk over and reach virtual objects that may be up against their walls. At the time of writing, VR developers can’t disable the guardian boundary. We’ve included video instructions in this hotfix to better describe a workaround for this issue - players need to manually draw a guardian boundary that extends to the walls of their room.

Fixed an issue where players were unable to use Espire Vision during Mission 3 “Sky High” in the single player VR campaign.

There was an issue introduced in our v1.6 update where in the VR campaign, if a player travels through elevators, there is a chance that they may be unable to use “Espire Vision” for an extended period of time. This was most reproducible during the “Sky High” Mission. This hotfix fixes this issue!

Fixed an exploit where players could get cheated leaderboard times for the Espire Ops & Weekly Challenges Game Modes

We have fixed an exploit where players could cheat during Espire Ops & Weekly challenge.s This could give them an unfair advantage, allowing them to obtain unachievable times on the leaderboard. Thank you to top player Wreckless Lee for reporting this issue!
