Hello Mercs!

Last week, we reported on the Fall Field Improvements coming your way, and today? Some new tools for your trade. Horzine knows in these darkest hours, mercs need the right equipment to succeed and are providing new gear to get the job done.

Enter the Tier 5 MG3 Shredder. This gun is reliable and devastating. It’s no wonder it has been used by militaries worldwide for over 70 years. This fast-firing full-auto machine gun will have Commandos lining up zeds to watch them fall. Featuring a 100-round belt firing 7.62x51mm NATO ammo, mercs finding themselves in an imposing crowd of zeds will rise to the occasion using the alt-fire to activate Shredder rounds that fire in fragments spread in a wide cone formation at a cost to the fire rate, ammo consumption, and damage. Anything caught in these iron sights will have nothing left to experiment on.

Mercs need a weapon that’s there for them day and night, and the off-perk 9mm Pistol has always been there in the most grim of times. But why not get the drop on your targets with the new HRG 93R Pistol? The choice between the classic 9mm and the new HRG 93R will be available in the Perk setup menu.

Lock it in before the chaos of the first hoard is on its way. Next time you head into the field, consider dismantling zeds with a barrage of less accurate, but possibly your style, burst fire with a larger 30-round clip. Can you ever have too much of a good thing? Two fistfuls are better than one. Like the 9mm Pistols, these can be dual-wielded too. Upgrade it up to 4 times for maximum wreckage. They’re guns; you know what to do with ‘em, boys and girls.

Next up, Horzine reveals the location of your next mission. It’s an all-hans-on-deck situation!

Will the HRG starter still benefit from the 9mm skills? (fallback for Commando, Bone Breaker for Gunslinger, Close Combat Training for SWAT)
Currently :

  • Tagged as a Gunslinger and Sharpshooter weapon, and as such, benefits from all their passives and skills.
  • All "elite" reload skills apply to the HRG 93R Pistol.
  • The Commando's level 10 skill Fallback and the SWAT's level 10 skill Close Combat Training apply.
  • Grants relevant EXP to the perk currently selected.

OK, at the very least, the guns look pretty slick this time around. Much more so than last update's weapons.

I absolutely love the MG3 (and its ancestors MG34/MG42), but I can't help but think that we don't really need yet another heavy machine gun in the Commando's arsenal. The Stoner is admittedly pretty fun, especially when you max out its mags, but it's just not as versatile and efficient as the good ol' SCAR (or AK12!) Meanwhile, the Minigun is still massively underused, and it's already a T5. I could see the MG3 being the superior option just for those shredder rounds you mention, but that's hardly desirable for a paid weapon... And I'm also afraid that said rounds might make quick work out of everything. But I guess it's acceptable at that point, considering balancing has been thrown down the drain. Oh well. At least killing stuff with a machine gun really never gets old.

(For those reasons, I think I would have loved an LMG with a much smaller mag and slower ROF, but way harder hitting... Something like a BREN or a BAR for example, even though the latter isn't technically an LMG)

I would have been deeply surprised to have a T1 alternative already. But an alternative to the modest 9mm? That's definitely shocking! It looks like a Raffica (and I guess that's what the name refers to...), but most of all I'm super curious about its stats... Double the mag size sounds like quite a buff over the 9mm ! I hope the accuracy loss is enough to keep the 9mm a viable option. I do wonder if skills boosting the 9mm will boost that gun as well... It might be a pretty solid sidearm in such cases.

Now we got another HRG.. and its a pistol... great x/
Well, HRG are pretty much given these days. Not only are they the "free" alternative to season passes, but they've been consistently added with each update for a couple of years now. It would have been surprising NOT to have one.

Also, we haven't had anything replacing our old 9mm friend. Never. Not even in KF1. So that's at least a pretty surprising choice.

9mm replacement for me is meh, 9mm is classic. But alr go on do something different tripwire.
But from all those HRG and other trash 10e weapon updates they could do much better, + when killing floor 3 is coming. Like good KF 2 End update, crazy wpn discount and other stuff. Like how OVERKILL did it, trashed their own game but did amazing job with End of pd 2.

Looking forward to these weapons, but please, please, PLEASE don’t try and balance these weapons by making them weak as piss and overly heavy like some weapons. Instead take a page from the community who makes modded weapons and balance them simply by making them more expensive. This is a example of what I’m talking about.

----------

Dreading what you might do, which will make me hate the weapons and not want to use them and I’m sure I won’t be the only one who feels this way.

MG3 SHREDDER

magazine size: 100

price: 1500 dosh

damage: 30

weight: 10

fire rate: 1200 RPM

alt fire damage: 90 damage per 5 ammo consumed

HRG 93R PISTOLS

magazine size: 30

price: 150 dosh

damage: 10

weight: 2 (single) or 4 (dual)

What I much prefer…

MG3 SHREDDER

magazine size: 100

price: 2500 (yes make the gun good and have it be as expensive as the M99)

damage: at least 35 (remember it’s tier 5, so it can’t be any stronger than it’s base damage)

weight: 8

fire rate: 600-1000 RPM (depending on the damage and is balanced by a slow reload time)

alt fire damage: 180-200 per 5 ammo consumed (depending how strong is the primary fire)

Now here is the reason I prefer these stats. I want good guns, but to balance them simply make them more expensive so the wait to save money is more worth it. On top of this I would like to have a LMG that’s a lighter 8 weight to fit more secondary weapons whose magazine (100 rounds) can work as a middle ground for the Stoner (75 rounds) to the minigun (120 rounds). The alt fire I would like it if it did a tad bit more damage than the primary weapon. So if the primary is 35 per bullet, the alt fire does180 damage instead of 175 at the cost of 5 ammo. The trade off being the fire rate is MUCH slower (like shotgun slow) and if it’s intended to act like a shotgun with multiple shrapnel fired, then obviously some of that shrapnel might miss if you’re shooting at a longer distance. Unless the base damage is going to be 40 or higher, in which case, nevermind. I'll be happy with the primary damage than without worrying too much about the alt fire.

HRG 93R PISTOLS

magazine size: 30

price: 300 dosh (almost as expensive as the 1911s and the winterbites)

damage: 25

weight: 0 (single) or 2 (dual)

The reason for this is simple. HRG’s have a history of being better than their original counterpart (looking at you Kaboomstick), so why not just continue on that trend? Besides the price, the other tradeoff over the 9mm pistols is that they aren’t as accurate due to their recoil, so if you’re a Gunslinger or Sharpshooter trying to land headshots from a distance, might be better to stick with the classic 9mms.

----------

If the weapons fit more the preferred design over the dreaded design, I can easily see both new weapons being fan favourites.

Also since we’re going to have 2 starting pistols to pick from, are we going to find more 9mm pistols and 93R pistols on the floor similar to how we might finding a starting weapon on the floor?
